What are KidsTime Workshops?

KidsTime Workshops are fun, supportive group sessions for families where a parent or carer has a mental health condition.

They’re a safe, relaxed and non-judgemental space for families to come together to learn and talk about mental health, without shame or stigma.

Children get to meet other young people in the same situation, share experiences, get answers to questions and, most importantly, have fun.

When do the workshops take place?

The workshops are held once a month in three locations:

  • Rainbow Hub, Keighley (1st Thursday of each month)
  • Barkerend Hub, Bradford East (2nd Thursday of each month)
  • Reevy Hill Hub, Bradford South (3rd Thursday of the each month)

How do I register for a workshop?

You can speak to a professional working with your family about referring to a KidsTime Workshop. 

 

KidsTime workshops are provided by Bradford District and Craven Mind in partnership with Our Time and Bradford District Care Trust.

What happens at a KidsTime Workshop?

Arrive

After everyone has arrived and said hello, we start with an activity for all the families to enjoy together. This is when we learn about mental health.

Play & Talk

Then we splits into 3 groups, a parent/carer group, a children’s group, and a teen group. The parent and carer group and the teen group have the chance to relax and talk openly, while the children take part in drama, art and games and create a short film.

Sharing

At the end of the workshop, the group rejoins for refreshments – pizzas and snacks for everyone! We watch the children’s film and share what we’ve been talking about in the parents’ and teen group.

How do KidsTime Workshops help?

  • Children can express themselves, reducing their fears and worries
  • Children de-stress, grow in confidence and learn about mental health conditions through games and drama
  • Parents and carers can discuss parenting and mental health in a supportive group
  • Families share experiences and offer advice, discussing problems and solutions

  • Enjoy some time out with the whole family, have fun and chat
  • Make new friends and share knowledge and experiences
  • Get helpful information about mental health and ask questions
  • Explore myths and fears about mental ill health, and combat stigma
  • There’s no pressure to talk and no-one is judged
  • Families are welcome to attend as and when they can
  • There will be separate groups for teenagers to take part
  • We provide snacks and refreshments – there’s always pizza
  • We offer taxis for families that need them

KidsTime Workshop Feedback

My son enjoys it so much. He is really happy. He wants to go every day to KidsTime because other kids play with him.

I enjoy how welcome I’m made to feel and safe to talk about my feelings.

(My son) has learned a lot of social skills here and is happy engaging. I used to have to really encourage him to do this – he’s come on a lot.

It opened up a conversation with myself and my child on the way home about ‘worry’. I also found it really helpful meeting others that had been sectioned.
