Meet our Trustee, Ian
Bradford District and Craven Mind is run by a dedicated group of volunteer trustees who guide the charity’s direction and make sure the management team stay on track.
We spoke to Ian about why he decided to volunteer as a trustee with BDC Mind.
Transcript of Ian’s video:
Hello there, I’m Ian and I am a trustee for Bradford District and Craven Mind. I became a trustee because I was intrigued as to how a charity works from behind the scenes. I thought I’d try my hand and get involved, and see what happens.
As I’ve got a lot of personal experience with mental health, I thought maybe I could bring that to the table.
I hope I can make a positive difference to the people who already use Bradford District and Craven Mind as well as new people. Through Bradford District and Craven Mind, I’ve developed a bit more self-awareness and because they have helped me a lot, I want to try and give something back to them as well.
Thank you.
Ian’s biography
With lived experiences of ill mental health, Ian’s journey with Bradford District and Craven Mind began in 2018 where he was a Service User and this included using Guideline, Safe Spaces and Suicide Bereavement Counselling as well as various therapeutic groups such as Creative Writing, Mindfulness Meditation and Wellness Recovery Action Planning, that Ian has participated in. These continue to help and support Ian both personally and within a professional capacity as Ian became an active volunteer for Bradford District and Craven Mind which included assisting with recruitment, various promotional activities, assisting with pop up stalls, befriending, facilitating groups such as Creative Writing and Tea and Talks, various Blog contributions as well as being part of the Editorial Team for our regular and very informative newsletter ‘Write Mind’. Ian feels so grateful to Bradford District and Craven Mind for their help and support during his difficult times that volunteering is giving something back to an organisation that is greatly needed for so many.
