£2.5m funding granted for young people’s mental health across Bradford District
Support for young people’s mental health has been given a huge boost across Bradford district, […]
The Mind Excellence Awards, led by National Mind, are a celebration of the achievements of local Minds throughout England and Wales. There are over 100 local Minds affiliated with National Mind, we each rely on our own funding and resources to provide local mental health services.
We are delighted to be recognised for the hard work on our new strategy which set’s out our priorities and focus for the next four years. For us it was so important that our strategy was focused around and embraced by our people – and not another document which sat on a shelf!
This new strategy also comes as part of our name change, from Mind in Bradford to Bradford District and Craven Mind, reflecting the wider geographical area we support.
The four main areas of our new strategy are:
Building capacity within services for children and young people and increasing the access to support which is available for them.
Strengthening support to adults and older people with a Severe Mental Illness and those with complex needs.
Reducing inequalities and increasing access to support for people from ethnically and culturally diverse communities.
Developing and supporting an inclusive and diverse workforce to increase impact and reach.
Helen Davey, Chief Executive and Steven Bancroft, Director (Corporate Services and Business Development) attended the awards ceremony in Birmingham to collect our award and connect with other local Minds.
The judges had these comments to make on our strategy:
Rather than just refreshing a strategy that had been praised in its MQM review, BDC Mind decided to go for a complete overhaul.
The new strategy is being used as a way for people in the organisation to know where they need to be putting their efforts, what the organisation’s commitments and priorities are, and what BDC Mind is going to achieve.
It creates a set of relevant and important objectives to tell of if the organisation is delivering on its priorities.
Chief Executive, Helen Davey shared her thoughts on the award-win:
It was a proud moment to accept the award on behalf of everyone who played a part in the strategy creation; and it’s great to know that our vision, effort, determination and impact will be held up as an example to over 100 other local Minds when it comes to developing their own strategies in the future.
Last year, Bradford District and Craven Mind supported 17,176 people through 53,523 interventions, including wellbeing groups; crisis support; one-to-one support; befriending support; drop-ins at cafes throughout the district and more.
