SMI Programme Manager Masira speaks to BCB Radio to mark World Mental Health Day
Yesterday, our SMI Programme Manager Masira Hans spoke to BCB Radio to mark World Mental Health Day.
The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day was Mental Health in an Unequal World. Masira responded to this theme and spoke about the work we are doing to better understand the inequalities, mental health issues and barriers to accessing support that local South Asian communities face.
She said: “Understanding the nuances to inequalities and understanding the nuances to a person really helps them in their journey. Understanding systemic racism, understanding cultural baggage and understanding a person’s heritage are really, really important.
We can only help a person with their mental health if we understand the inequalities that they face.
