How can Hospital Buddies provide support?

Hospital Buddies supports children and young people on the children’s wards and in A&E at Bradford Royal Infirmary and Airedale General Hospital. Support is available seven days a week and there is no referral process.

Wellbeing Workers on the wards can support children and young people with a range of issues including:

  • anxiety around an operation
  • coming to terms with a chronic health diagnosis
  • mental health admissions
  • experiencing mental health distress

This service is delivered in partnership with the hospital ward staff and CAMHS to ensure children and young people get the best care whilst in hospital.

Hospital Buddies is part of the Youth in Mind partnership.

How to access this service:

Any child or young person aged 5-19 who are admitted to hospital at Bradford Royal Infirmary or Airedale General can access this service.

Speak to member of the ward staff to access support from Hospital Buddies.

Been helpful to talk about my anxiety and hospital irritability.

Just chatting to someone so I am not alone all day.

Although the support was for my child, I really appreciated having the time to go and make some calls and freshen up whilst you were supporting them.
