Befriending Week Blog 2: what befriending means to our clients

This Befriending Week, our befriendees reflect on what befriending means to them and how it makes them feel.

What does befriending mean to you?

“Befriending is good. It makes you feel good that there are people out there to talk to and share good times and bad times with.” (Beverly)

“It gives him chance to have a chat and speak out. He is very lonely and looks forward to the chats – it breaks up the boredom and stops him feeling insane.” (befriender Paul on behalf of befriendee Matthew)

“It means the world to me to have someone to talk to.” (Lorna)

“The relationship gives her chance to be heard and be listened to, to offload problems.  She looks forward to my call because it’s often the only person she speaks to and there isn’t any conflict.” (befriender on behalf of befriendee Tracey)

How does befriending make you feel?

“It makes me feel better.” (Lorna)

“It makes her feel that someone cares at a time when she feels cut off.” (befriender on behalf of befriendee Tracey)

“The chats let him talk, it helps him to dig out the past. I have also had my own issues in the past which he can relate to and offer his own thoughts on.” (befriender Paul on behalf of befriendee Matthew)
