We’re celebrating 5 years of our safer space service, The Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary was set up as an out-of-hours crisis service for adults experiencing mental health distress in 2015. Working with Bradford District Care Trust and Sharing Voices, it was the first of three safer space services in the district to offer urgent mental health support and is often an alternative to A&E.

The Sanctuary is now open to over-16s and provides around 2,000 support sessions a year. Latest figures show it helped 868 people in the 12 months until April this year, either through face-to-face appointments or over the phone. It’s currently operating over the phone during the coronavirus outbreak to help keep people safe.

To mark its anniversary, our Sanctuary team has put together a video. We’ve also published a special edition of our client newsletter Write Mind with interviews and stories which show how Sanctuary could help you or someone you know.

Referral to Sanctuary is through the 24-hour helpline First Response. If you live in Bradford, Craven, Wharfedale or Airedale and need urgent mental health support, contact First Response on 0800 952 1181.
